A Navy Cut tin for pipe tobacco is used for the key to the Fram sent by Nancy in WH. John (?) says that’s what Daddy smokes too (ie like Captain Flint; presumably the tin was one of his).

Captain Flint had to go outside (up to the fell) for a smoke because of the GA, in SD?

In PP they find a matchbox in Portugese “like Latin” which Timothy had discarded on the Topps. Did Timothy smoke a pipe too?

Other mentions are of Jim Brady, who started after he left school (WD).
And Bill’s chewing tobacco in PD. CF does not want the others trying it.

And of course the fires started by motorists on the Dundale Road (PP), one of which is put out by John & Nancy after Dick spots it. Motorists who had stopped and had a smoke? Next time though, there was no-one to see it.
