I don't think that the Hullabaloos were necessarily well-heeled. This might have been their one holiday of the year, and they were determined to make the most of it.

I once argued with Mr Hoseason, whose firm is agent for about half the Broads Hire Fleets. I asked why they provided large numbers of plastic motor cruisers fitted with televisions (the modern equivalent of the Hullaballos' gramophones) rather than aiming for people who might prefer sailing boats and a bit of peace and quiet.

He claimed that the motor cruisers aimed at people with only limited incomes, intent on spending all their annual holiday savings in one joyous burst to the profit (as he claimed) of local communities, whereas sailing boats were hired by people taking second or third holidays on a tight budget and so putting nothing but the hire fee into the community.

Indeed compare how much the Hullabaloos must have spent each day - always in pubs - with the Admiral's likely outlay

(Note how carefully I have avoided the word 'Class'!)
