Red-faced, I have to make a confession. Against my better non-literal instincts, I spent time today searching for an old article in the TARS Journal, Mixed Moss, about a search for the North Pole site. I found it - a report of an expedition on Saturday 13th March 1993, with personnel including Dick Kelsall (who remembers seeing the 'North Pole' house when aged 7), and Jim Andrews (an experienced dowser). Using dowsing rods, they found the foundations of an old 'view house' in Borrans Park, near Ambleside (north end of Windermere), and what's more the southern aspect was in the form of an 'apse', facing the lake. They also 'divined' a post-hole within the building, at the centre of the radii of the 'apse'. A second visit enabled a detailed ground-plan to be drawn. An old photograph confirmed that there had been a building at that spot, but the photo was unfortunately not distinct. The building had been quite big - 20 ft 6 ins wide, and over 33 ft long overall.

(The article, and ground plan, are in MM Vol 1 No 4 (1993), p. 41)
