To a point - when I think of the stupid things we kids did and how close we came to killing ourselves (we had a wild area at the end of our street that lead onto a wide area of very dangerous mudflats at the edge of the inner Auckland harbour) it gives me the creeps. My own children, despite more careful monitoring certainly came close to the edge once or twice - which in Sam's case was a good thing even though it to this day gives his mother nightmares. A child without any sense of their own mortality is an accident waiting to happen.
