Having worked in Wandsworth, and knowing it fairly well, in that case I can't agree with what you say. There is absolutely nothing pleasant about that part of town. Removing the brewery (which opens the possibility of rescuing other bits of ravaged industrial land nearby) at least creates a chance to make a better place of it. The motor car has so thoroughly destroyed central Wandsworth that changing the roads is the only hope left. There's not the remotest chance of eliminating the cars.

Of course they can screw it up. That's always true. But it shouldn't be a reason to keep horrid things as they are.
