On the other hand, there is evidence that Peggy expected people to wear the correct dress for their chosen activity. When Jemmerling is seen rowing over to the Sea Bear, Peggy whispers 'Plus fours at sea!' One assumes that this indicates strong disapproval. AR points out that Capn Flint was wearing a 'baggy pair of old flannel trousers'. One assumes that these were OK at sea? (As a non-sailor I wouldn't know, but I do remember Laurence, a year or two ago, posting something about 'pretentious sailing' . . . .)
