Once again, AR has been mentioned in his old paper, the Guardian. Yesterday’s issue contained a Cycling Supplement, describing some ‘scenic routes’. One was Dalton-in-Furness to Grange-over-Sands (pp. 50, 51), and a slightly presumptuous note to this stated:
“This cycle-ride takes you very close to . . .Haverthwaite, where children’s author (and British secret agent) Arthur Ransome spent the last period of his life. The one-time Manchester Guardian foreign correspondent is said to have . . .spied on the Soviet leaders while living in Russia just after the revolution.”
