yes, in the period 1880-1939, (male) sporty Oxbridge students going up to London and indulging in rowdy hi-jinks -possibly involving police-was mandatory behavior (see Brideshead Revisited; & also other activity which we needn't go into; also see the first Doctor in the House movie..)
From '45 onwards, and particularly in the last 30 years, this has perforce totally changed. At my college, just mounting the (expensive) horse-statue in recent years has been very severly punished, and vomiting in the courtyards likewise.
