I do not recall how Nancy Blackett is rigged now, and will wait with interest for news from a Trust member, but I can confirm that a whip on the halyards was common practice in the 1930's in Britain aboard boats of Goblin's size and type. The method is recommended in FB Cooke's "Seamanship for Yachtsmen" and his other volumes, which were very much the standard textbooks of the day.
