My childhood too, though I now can't remember if my searching for secret places was a natural impulse or because of my love of the SA books!
When I lived in Bradford I had 'Garden Castle' (the bottom of the garden - not remotely castellated!); on holiday in Bude we had the Secret Beach, there was also Swallow Island (on the Wharfe near Barden Bridge) and later there was the quarry, Swallowdale, Amazon Creek, the North Pole, Peter Duck's Cave... the Ransome connections are all a tad too obvious!
