So did I. My prized Solway jacket from 30 years ago once spet two years under a boat in a boatyard, but was retrieved and re-proofed and I can just fit into it!
I have an idea that "cheap" oilies were proofed not with wax as used by the not-so-cheap Barbour but with boiled linseed oil, and tended to stick together in a solid sticky mass if left folded up. There is a reference to them in The Riddle of The Sands, where Carruthers buys a set, on advice from Davies.
