In the spirit of recording every AR mention in the press, today's Guardian colour supplement has an article called 'Dark room days' with several pages of photographs from their 'working picture library'. Amongst those printed is a portrait of Leon Trotsky sent in by one Arthur Ransome in 1926, "two years earlier, Ransom (sic) had married Trotsky's secretary, Evgenia Shelepina".
But as well as the photograph, he's mentionned in the very first paragraph of the accompanying notes: 'imagine the thrill at finding a portrait of Trotsky with this on the reverse: "rec'd from A Ransome 18 March/26". (The author Arthur Ransome reported from Moscow for the Manchester Guardian.)'
Not sure if the thrill is the photo of Trotsky or the note on the back...
Tried to find a link on the Guardian website but couldn't find anything. Might try to scan the photo.
