CF gets some cups for rowing [PM]; although he does not row in the Oxford team, he just celebrates their victory with a policeman’s helmet! [ML].

In [WD] Daddy gets a lift to the Goblin in a launch, but the Flushing Pilot is rowed out to the Goblin. I have seen some early outboards in the National Maritime Museum in Auckland, NZ but I suppose they were quite uncommon prewar. In the thirties some tall ships like the Pommern [WD] of the “Flying P” line were still carrying cargoes like grain, and I recall seeing the Pamir tied up in Wellington NZ; she made a number of wartime trans-Pacific voyages from NZ to the USA, Frisco I think.
