I reckon that 100 pages an hour is a fairly reasonable speed for most people to read a novel. I think I developed my capacity to read fairly quickly at boarding school; otherwise the book you were reading might disappear to surface sometimes at the end of term.
I do tend to read or reread books from start to finish. Something like War & Peace is just possible to read in a day, providing food and tea are provided at regular intervals.

I do not consider that I am a fast reader. Again, at boarding school, there were faster readers and both my (now adult) children read faster than I. Alas only one of them liked S&A.
