Dora recorded in her journal that 'something was going on' between AR and Barbara the first time that he stayed at Lanehead. It was to Barbara that he first proposed marriage, probably in the summer of 1904, before the family moved to London for the winter. Dora was the object of his affections a couple of years later, up to the time he was camping out at Low Yewdale (Dixon's) in 1908, when she probably convinced him that she meant 'no'.
