Monday's Guardian contains an obituary of George Band, a member of the successful Everest expedition in 1953 and, two years later, one of the first two people to climb (the real) Kan(g)chenjunga.
Interesting to see that a previous team to make the attempt, in 1905, included the notorious occultist Aleister Crowley.
