There is the the Charcoal Burners' wigwam, the Dogs' Home, and the Igloo that perhaps could serve as a Ransomish model, that is, if you want to go so far as to have a fireplace which is not a requirement but a common feature in the original structures. If the opening to "the igloo" is kept rather small then you could call it a "cave" like Swallodale with no fireplace. That does suggest that such a dwelling might attract 4 legged squatters which could be a surprise when crawling into it.
As to the children doing the designing, that would really make it "theirs" with the hope that they are familiar with Ransome and his world of his books and perhaps with that reading as their background, they can make relatated suggestions.
And their ideas are not constrained by the need to PAY for it either, either in money or sweat and bruised knuckles.
Be careful of heights that could result in an accidental FALL with unfortunate consequences, both physical and legal.
But whatever the final results are, do share some photos with us after the deed is done. Showing a pirate flag, of course.
