I did think when I was writing my piece, and he does say I seem to remember in the same letter something about children of 9 to 59. I take that to mean he wrote for anybody that cared to read them.
Better that than what Enid Blyton claimed, she had no idea where the stories came from she just sat at her typewriter and they flowed out of her!
