I was out wondering through woodlands once, in the 1970's, down in Devon, when I heard a rhythmical clank, clank, clank, it was a working ram. You could hear it before seeing it. Its efficiency is impressive, that was the only working example I've seen in the wild, though I've seen many little concrete squares where one once performed its duty.
As for 'Water in the bathroom.' I'm convinced that implies there is water in the bathroom. i.e. Beckfoot is plumbed.
