I have always considered GN? to be a 'real life' adventure. Whilst I agree that it is possibly the weakest book of the 12, it has some passages in it which are well up to Ransome standard. Example - Chapter XXIII 'Ship's Naturalist' - a meticulous and tense account of Dick photographing the nest. This is vintage AR. Like Dick, the reader loses all sense of time passing.
