Stone is where my grandfather's grandmother, whose name is Eliza Bates, came from in 1849. She migrated to Australia on the Scotia. I named my first daughter for her. I was always under the impression that Stone was near London and had disappeared, but I found out last week that it is not. From the English Census data we can usually get a good idea of where they lived and from Google Earth we can look at it. It fascinates us colonials.
I want to visit Stone and see where they lived.
