No, what you say does not sound negative! But, you admit not knowing about English houses - well, some of your points can be dealt with because of this! For example fireplaces in bedrooms was quite common (though rarely used, my paternal grandparents lived in council house in a small country town from around 1900-1960 and they had them!)
I'll comment on some of your points later on.
