Thanks Peter for a comprehensive answer in the 'real' world as it were! From the point of view of the book, it does certainly seem that Mrs Walker and Mrs Blackett have met. I agree that AR doesn't trouble his readers with such questions but the do occur to me these days on yet another re-reading!
