Following on from what Mike said, as a kid I was reading Compton's 'William' books at about the same times as the AR canon. For nostalgia's sake, I read a couple of 'Williams' again just a year or two ago, but I found I didn't enjoy them much at all. On the other hand, I still read AR every two years or so and enjoy them hugely.
