A bit of Googling turned up a Siamese naval jack with a white elephant on a blue background. What didn't turn up were the stripes and disk with elephants shown in my Children's Encyclopedia.
If the elephant had been dropped in 1917 (thud) this would be compatible with Captain Flint picking up an unwanted obsolete flag around 1920. Perhaps the blue had faded to green.
