I read about this a few weeks ago - Sophie's Facebook I think gave the reference. John finds out Captain Flint is a spy when looking round the houseboat (this didn't happen in the book!), but is he for or against (Britain presumably).
The latest rumour I've heard is that they're shooting background stuff in the Lakes now to tie in with CGI and studio scenes, sufficient for three films with the last based in Russia. As I say, a rumour and uncorroborated. They've also avoided using Bank Ground Farm but were at Brantwood recently, and I noticed a large trailer etc encampment at the north west end of Coniston right by two stone boathouses.
I always felt they wouldn't do a straightforward remake, and that they'd weave in bits of Ransome's own life given the increased awareness of his early life through TV and books.
