One thing I have wondered about sailing both Swallow and Amazon is how the sheets were led. Stuart Weir’s piece on the “All Things Ransome” website suggests Swallow’s might have been taken straight to the hand.
However in the photograph of AR sailing Swallow the sheet appears to be led via the transom, which from experience I know is much easier to handle. In which case it will be a single block, although not giving any mechanical advantage it improces the angle of the lead. If this is the case I assume this is a single sheave on a fixed bridle rather than running on a traveller. Does anyone know any better?
