When we started to do the new page for All Things Ransome on the people who were inspirations for Ransome's characters, we was helped a lot by people like Roger Wardale and Ted Alexander and by some secondary sources. See Inspirations for Arthur Ransome's Characters.
The general conclusion was that few if any of the (child) characters were based on a single source, even if the Altounyans had inspired Ransome to write SA (in exchange for a pair of slippers). There were a number of potential sources for the Walkers, Blacketts, and others that we know of, and certainly given how Ransome "assembled" many of his locations, it's not a reach to presume he did the same for his characters.
