Someone asked for a search on the word, "tobacco" to see if
maybe there were any references to brand names. Here is what
I found out...

References to the word: "tobacco" in the Ransome series:

Lines taken directly from the source enclosed in [].

BIG SIX
Chapter 3
The Coots and Tom are visiting the Eelman who is speaking about
the "old days".

["Some folk are rare fools," said the old man. "Now if I'd
have knowed where them nests was, it'd have been money in
my pocket and tobacco in my old pipe."]
------------------------------------------
BIG SIX
Chapter 15
Setting up the COOT CLUB shed for a meeting, looking for a
pencil. Tom is trying to point out the location of a pencil.

["... Blue pencil? On the window
sill, I think. There you are, Pete, behind those tin tobacco
boxes... No... You give it to Dot..."]
------------------------------------------
COOT CLUB
Chapter 19
Port and Starboard have hitched a ride with Jim Wooddall. They
are below, catching glimpses of him at the tiller.

[...they could see just a bit of blue sky now and... sometimes,
a little floating cloud of blue tobacco smoke.]
------------------------------------------
Same location...

Old Simon had been shopping and laid out his purchases...

[...wrapping up a parcel of thick
rashers of bacon, a big block of plug tobacco, two loaves of
bread, a packet of matches and a bottle of milk.]
------------------------------------------
GREAT NORTHERN?
Chapter 3
The Sea Bear was settling with the dropping tide onto her keep
and "legs". Nancy wanted to go overboard and have a look at her.

["I've had enough to eat," said Nancy. "I'm going up to have a look."
Captain Flint followed her, stuffing tobacco into his pipe.]
------------------------------------------
GREAT NORTHERN?
Chapter 5
They have begun their exploration, sensing that they are being
watched by the unknown locals.

["Tobacco smoke," said Dorothea. "I smelt it. There it is
again."]
------------------------------------------
same location...
Continuing their exploration and still seeing no one...

[That false alarm of the tobacco smoke, and that rush up the
hillside, that had seemed as empty as any hillside could be,
had made the geology seem less worth while.]
------------------------------------------
GREAT NORTHERN?
Chapter 24
Captain Flint had spent some time up in the crosstrees. While
there, he did a bit of painting, and kept watch of the Egg
Collector's ship, waiting for the others to return.

[He had smoked nearly an ounce of tobacco.]
------------------------------------------
MISSEE LEE
Chapter 2
They were sitting out a bit of calm weather, anxiously awaiting
the return of some sort of wind.

[...the smell of tobacco smoke woke Titty. She opened her
eyes to see that Captain Flint was smoking one of the cigars he had
bought in Papeete instead of his usual pipe.]
------------------------------------------
PETER DUCK
Chapter 5
Peter Duck is about to start spinnin his sea-yarns.

[But now, as they waited for the old sailor to begin, and he sat
there on the edge of his bunk, pushing the dottle of tobacco into
his pipe with a horny thumb, he seemed different.]

Now there's a new word to me: "dottle", as a measure of tobacco.
------------------------------------------
PETER DUCK
Chapter 6
Peter Duck has been telling sea-yarns about his adventures with
the Frenchies.

[...there was a fine clipper becalmed near where they was
fishing and they rowed up to her and put me aboard in exchange for a
bag of negro head. . ."
"What's that?" asked Roger.
"Tobacco," said Captain Flint. "But let Mr. Duck go on."]
------------------------------------------
same location
Peter Duck and Captain Flint are discussing whether or not to go
hunting for that bag of treasure. Peter Duck is expressing his
lack of enthusiasm for proceeding with the search .

["...I don't want it, not with my old wherry that'll last my time
and a bit more."
Captain Flint looked away, and tapped the tobacco
out of his pipe.
"I can't help thinking it's wasted on those crabs," he said.
"I don't wonder Black Jake wants to go and have a look for it."]
------------------------------------------
PETER DUCK
Chapter 14
They are sailing down along the Spanish Coast, feeling the effect
of the unhampered Atlantic. Peter Duck is telling of previous
times along those same seas.

[I were in them Frenchy boats fishing round here when they give
me to the skipper of the Louisiana Belle for a bag of tobacco.
But I telled you that yarn before."]
------------------------------------------
PETER DUCK
Chapter 15
Bill had just come on board and is getting to know this new crew.
Nancy had commented on the unusual rocking of the boat, with the
hint that perhaps she was feeling the start of seasicknes. Maybe
he could show these children something after all.

[It came with a word that Nancy let slip about the horrible way
in which the Wild Cat was shaking things up. Bill felt in his
pocket. Yes, he still had that quarter plug of black tobacco...]
------------------------------------------
same location...
Bill had introduced the idea of chewing tobacco to these
children, and they were a bit reluctant to try it. Bill is
showing off a bit, talking about how to cure sea sickness.

["I can turn you all up without that," said Bill. "This
seasickness, it's just nothing. Chewing tobacco ain't got
nothing to do with it. Shall I tell you how they cure me?]
------------------------------------------
same location...
A bit of wind, and Bill is watching Captain Flint manage the
tiller.

[...Bill went aft, dug out once more his plug of black tobacco,
cut himself a small scrap, braced himself close by the
steering-wheel, and silently chewing, settled down to watch with
an expert eye Captain Flint's performance as a helmsman.
"How long have you been chewing tobacco?" asked the skipper
suddenly.
"I begin when I were young," said Bill. "You needn't be feared sir. I
always spits to loo'ard."
"All right," said Captain Flint. "But don't waste tobacco on the
others, and no chewing below decks or in your cabin."]
------------------------------------------
PETER DUCK
Chapter 18
They are coming close to the island, checking the depth with a
lead line.

[John was back with it in a moment, and Peter Duck pushed some of
the tallow into a hole in the bottom of the lead, using his
thumb as if he were pushing down tobacco in his old pipe. ]
------------------------------------------
PETER DUCK
Chapter 19
At the island, they are making plans to start the search and to
get some water on board to replenish their supply.

["Well, there's something in that," said Peter Duck, pushing the
tobacco hard into his pipe. "If I got to leave the ship, better
when it looks like easy weather."]
------------------------------------------
PETER DUCK
Chapter 22
Peter Duck and Bill, having just seen the others sail away in
their small boat, set up to do a bit of fishing while they are
away.

[Peter Duck smoked his pipe, leaning on the bulwarks with a hand
ready to feel the slightest nibble from a fish. Bill, close
beside him, chewed a small bit of tobacco given him by Peter
Duck.]
------------------------------------------
PICTS AND MARTYRS
Chapter 22
Timothy has joined up with the other four, ready for a treck to
the goldfields. A welcome day away from the GA.

[Timothy took a pipe from his pocket. It was already filled with
tobacco. He lit it and puffed at it, while the provisions were
being divided among the different knapsacks. "First pipe since
yes-terday," he said. "I used the last match getting the primus
going for supper."]
------------------------------------------
SWALLOWS AND AMAZONS
Chapter 7
They had been "pearl diving" but stopped when John came up with
more provisions from Mrs. Dixon to be unloaded.

[There was plenty for them to carry, two loaves of bread, a
couple of big lettuces, a basket of eggs as well as the milk-can
full of milk, and a small tobacco tin.
"What is there in that?" said Roger.
"Worms," said Captain John. ]
------------------------------------------
SWALLOWS AND AMAZONS
Chapter 18
Titty is on the island alone, when visited by "Man Friday". They
are checking on the food supplies. And Titty found...

[She also had a tobacco box full of sugar.]

Just wondering, is this possibly the SAME tobacco box than came
from Mrs. Dixon full of worms? Hopefully it is a different one,
so that shows there were TWO tobacco boxes being used to carry
supplies, one for worms, one for sugar. Hope they don't get
those two tins mixed up, and flavor their tea with the wrong tin.
------------------------------------------
SWALLOWDALE
Chapter 3
The Swallows have started their camp on Wild Cat Island, and the
Amazons have finally come to the island, but with the sad news
that they can not camp out, but have to be home with best frocks
as expected by the GA (Native Trouble).

["Did you see our smoke?" asked Titty.
"Uncle Jim saw it last night when he went up the fell for a
smoke," said Nancy. "Aunt Maria doesn't like tobacco in the
house."]
------------------------------------------
SWALLOWDALE
Chapter 7
Captain Flint and John are rigging a patch over the wound in
Swallow so it can with a jury-rig make its way back to be
repaired properly.

[John was picking out the smallest flat-headed nails from the
mixed lot in an old tobacco tin that had been given to him by the
farmer at Holly Howe, and Captain Flint was holding two or
three in his lips all ready, so that there was no waiting between
banging in one nail and beginning to bang in the next.]
------------------------------------------
SWALLODALE
Chapter 15
Roger is anxious to go off fishing, using the best worm he ever
caught. Seems that the tobacco tin is once again being used to
hold the worms, just as they did in S&A.

["Let's go and fish, too," he said, opening the tobacco tin
in which he had his worm. "The tarn is crammed with fish. Look
at the way they're pulling them out. Two already."]
------------------------------------------
SWALLOWDALE
Chapter 31
Roger is injured, and is staying in the wigwam with the two
Billies. The younger one is fixing something to eat.

[Then he slapped his knee and said he was forgetting the salt and
went in again and came out with an old tobacco tin full of salt.]

Tobacco tins must have been very handy containers, being used for
storage of sugar, worms for bait, nails, and now for salt.
------------------------------------------
WE DIDN'T MEAN TO GO TO SEA
Chapter 3
The Swallows have just moved their gear on board the Goblin with
Jim, who seems to be having a bit of trouble keeping his pipe
lit, as evidenced by a trail of burnt matches accumulating in the
water.

["Tobacco's a bit damp," said Jim. "Bother it. It's gone out
again."]
------------------------------------------
WE DIDN'T MEAN TO GO TO SEA
Chapter 4
They were finally underway in the Goblin with Jim commanding and
teach a bit of seamanship about buoys on the way.

[Jim was sitting on the cockpit coaming, relighting the
tobacco that was left in that pipe of his, and giving a first
lesson in pilotage.]
------------------------------------------
WE DIDN'T MEAN TO GO TO SEA
Chapter 7
Jim has been away a long time. Tide has been coming in, and they
are getting a bit worried not knowing what has happened to him to
make him so late getting back.

["He didn't take his pipe with him," said Susan. "He left it,
half full of tobacco, and I've propped it up at the side of the
sink."]
------------------------------------------
WINTER HOLIDAY
Chapter 14

The Doctor had just delivered a package from Nancy as she is kept
in isolation because of her mumps.

[In another moment string was cut and paper torn off and they
were looking at an old tobacco tin.
"Navy cut," said John. "That's what father smokes."
"So does Uncle Jim," said Peggy struggling with the lid.
It fitted tightly and flew open with a jerk. A key fell out on the
floor. It was a large brass key, old and tarnished.]

This seems to be the ONLY place where the brand of the tobacco is
mentioned.

Sugar, worms, nails, salt, and now, we see a tobacco tin being
used as a shipping package to contain a KEY.
