Well it seems logical to me to expect a town nicknamed 'Rio' to be somewhere near a river. But OK, let's accept the 'Rio Grande' theory. Which of the numerous towns called 'Rio Grande' did the S&As mean? Is any of them a port? And in any case, why shorten it to 'Rio'? The only place, to my knowledge, which is referred to world-wide as 'Rio' in short, is Rio de Janeiro. I just cannot accept that the Swallows would have been so vague - and Dick would have pulled them up pretty quick if they had!
