Thank you so much for your message. It has been jolly fine to receive responses in my
efforts to "signal to Mars". I know that my Ransome knowledge base is limited, but by reading
this page and by reading and re-reading the books, I'm sure I'll learn. I think that
one of the best things about the Tarboard is that my interpretations of the series and
the characters are no longer limited simply to my thoughts. It is interesting and enlightening
to read what others think of Ransome.
While I had realized that my name did pop up in Ransome occasionaly, I was not aware that
it was so common amoung the natives. I definitely knew about Mary Walker and Mary Swainson,
but I didn't know that Molly was a form of Mary and was desperately trying to forget that Maria
(ie the GA) is also a form of Mary. I think I remember reading a Tarboard message that stated
that Peggy was originally to be called Mary. While I would have been thrilled to have my
name associated with the Amazons, I think that Mary (like Jane) is rather un-piratical. Thanks so
much for providing me with new personal connections to Ransome; I'm sure I don't have to tell you
how Ransomeish the name Peter is.
