The principal newspaper which was going at that time was The Argus, which folded during the 1960's. I'm not sure that The Age goes back that far. We are however, discussing a boat which is only the size of an average Canadian canoe, the arrival of which would not cause a big fuss during a gold rush. I will try to get hold of a opy of "Jolly Dogs Are We" the history of yachting in the new State of Victoria, to see if there is any mention of it there. Don't hold your breath while you're waiting, it may take some time.
