Where is the front door of Beckfoot?
It is obviously not on the long side of the house overlooking the garden and lawn. It isn't in the north end "extension" as I am sure that is where the kitchen is.
In most country houses (i.e. those which do not have closely adjoining neighbours) we find that the front door is set on a long side of the house not on a short end. So Beckfoot's front door would be facing west into a yard or court with the garage/stables/outbuildings either opposite or perhaps along one side.
