Further to the bird line.

When I went to collect the paper this morning - there was a red cardinal sitting in the tree. Teh brightest red I have ever seen in a bird. He was no more then 2 metres away and looked right at me.

I had wished I had a camera.

My Latin is not great so I have no idea what family the Cardinal comes from.

The beauty of Ransome's writing is he used word we know and understand, what amazes me a bit about Anne reading SA for the first time is the English words she has not heard before or only vaguely.

Fortnight is a classic example.

And meat pie, Anne had no idea of what a real meat pie was till I took her to Oz. Anyone got a good recipe for a real meat dripping out pie.

She still does not like vegemite.

John
