From what I can remember as an eleven-year-old I enjoyed it and didn't nit-pick too much about the minor details (although as previously mentioned I recall being none-too-keen on the casting of Captain John). I had certainly read the book before seeing the series, although whether I had read the whole canon at that time I can't remember. Ian's short clip just makes me keen to see the whole thing again sometime and be able to judge the production as an adult.
