Re “Self-censorship” of American textbooks to make them acceptable to extremists of left and right, see an article on “The Language Police” by Diane Ravitch. Banned are Huck Finn - and Yachting. Plus editing of Chaucer, Melville & Swift - remember Bowdler!

I would think Self-censorship would be more pronounced in America than in New Zealand or Britain with greater local control of education there. Even with local school Boards of Trustees, the Ministry of Education in New Zealand has more say on textbooks.
