I agree that pubs will be on trade routes - I meant that the stories were set around villages.
I used to live in the Yorkshire Dales where every village had a pub. (Unsuprisingly!!)
In one dale the inns (and therefore villages) were strung down the dale all equidistant at around 5 miles apart. Just the distance you could herd animals in a day.
