My reply: That matches my memory of where it was. The slide is at present a few thousand miles away (I split my life between Europe and North America) but I should be able to get to it in mid October; I will scan and post it then.

Dan continues: Over the weekend I realised it is probably no longer at eye level, so when I visit the Island in October I will be looking UP at the trees to try and find it!!!!

My reply: I seem to recall that trees grow up by growing out... in other words, the bark does not move "upwards" but the whole tree gets thicker as each new ring is added to the trunk of the tree, that ring then being able (with a wider base) to grow a little bit taller than the previous ring. Of course, maybe that's not true with all trees -- I am an astronomer, not a botanist! Dick Callum would certainly know, I'm sure...
