Robert:

I was reading in a local paper that the latest Harry Potter novels are basically being released in America in their British form because of pressure from the young buyers who want the whole expereince of the English language. The words that are changed are now down to 2 or 3 and they are so minor no one would notice.

Intersting how J K Rowling has had such an influence even to the children wanting the real spelling.

"What is happening is part of of a phenomena I wrote abot a couple of years ago when I wsa asked to comment on Rowling. I went to the Yale University bookstore and bought and read a copy of Harry Potter and the SStne. I suffered a grea deal in the process. The writing was dreadfl and the book was terrible. As I read I noticed that every time a character went for a walk the author wrote instead the charcter stretched his legs (My comment presumably there is no female leg stretching. ) I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope sevel dozen times. I was incredulous. Rwoling mind is os governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. His article gets worse, saying the children should be reading the Just So Stories, Jungle Book, Thirteen Clocks and Wind in the WIllows or Alice. I agree that the last set of books are good, but why take the mickey out of an author who tries hard.

Of course we have all heard of Harlod Bloom?
