"The D's are looking for attachment to location, in the Lakes and the Broads, as are their offstage parents."

Are they? Or do they just want to learn to sail?
I'm querying this point because I don't know where the D's demonstrate the kind of interest in location that the Walkers show. With the Swallows and their island, you see it very clearly: the wanting to stay there for ever and ever, the comments when they come back to the island about how nice it is to be home. They also have a habit of making friends with the people who are part of the local scene, like the charcoal burners or the Swainsons.

The longing you see with the D's in WH is the wish to be part of a group and have adventures. They make friends with other children, and Dick is always keen to find out how things are done, but do they investigate localities in the same way as the Walkers?
