I grew up in the Middle East and in England, mostly, white Christmasses were rather thin on the ground, though we had an interesting mudstorm (dust storm when it rains) one year. Even in the very cold and snowy English winter of 1962/63 the heavy snow, which cut me off from seeing my grandmother by blocking all the roads to her village in Somerset, didn't start until Boxing Day.

Since moving to Toronto there has usually been some snow and I enjoy its presence, but it isn't essential for a good Christmas or this year would be a bit of a downer). However, it is now part of my image of Christmas.
