I too was impressed by the age of Britain. To see from the top of a double decker bus, a roman wall more than two thousand years old and to see the path along which the sentries walked is more awe inspiring than any human made structure could possibly be. The only thing I have ever seen to compare with it is Tane Mahuta, a giant kauri tree in the north of New Zealand, also several thousand years old.
On the other side, driving in the UK was just like being at home(sidewise anyway), Scottish roads so alike that if it weren't for the multitude of jet trails overhead I could imagine I was out in the farming districts of my own land.
