There really is no problem driving on the unfamiliar side of the road, or driving a car with the controls on the unfamiliar side. At the age of 20 I passed the Ohio driving test (on snow) the day after I arrived, never having driven a left hand drive car or driven on the right of the road before (or for that matter driven any vehicle more than half the size of the mighty Oldsmobile I was presented with). I think your subconscious self keeps you well under control.

Perhaps the greatest risk is after you get home, when you tend to find yourself on the wrong side of your own road if there isn't any traffic about when you set off to remind you where you are.
