As a further suggestion, if the bare trellis looks better in winter, why not scrap the perennial berries over it and just use it in summer for annuals such as climbing beans or sugar snap peas combined with something fragrant such as sweet peas or nasturtiums? The berries can be grown elsewhere and you get the structure you enjoy over the winter months.
