I first noticed this odd Japanese practice in the Louvre. There was a large group of tourists clustered together in front of the Venus de Milo. Later on I met another group clustered in front of the Mona Lisa, smiling nervously at the camera. What is the photographer actually doing? Taking pictures of the famous work of art or a picture of his friends. Or maybe he's taking a picture of his friends standing in front of a famous work of art.

In answer to the question about a four-way stop in a North American city. No, there are very few four-way stops downtown. There are just traffic lights. I sometimes wish Vancouver would have a few roundabouts. We seem to be saturated with traffic lights.
