Not too long ago we discussed the matter of whether the Callums lived in London. Did we ever establish that they did?

I don't think we did. We're told they lived in a city, and it just seemed a reasonable possibility that Prof Callum was at University College or the School of African and Oriental Studies, both of which have major Egyptological faculties. This would also have put them within reach of swimming pools and artificial skating rinks.

Quite apart from Dick joining the train at Crewe, given the date, and their social background, it's very likely that they would have gone to boarding school. It's what the British did to their children- still do, some of them. My wife is from Switzerland and found the whole idea cruel and unnatural. My parents moved abroad while I was at day school in London, and so I became a reluctant boarder. It was okay, I suppose, but I agree with my wife.
