The ship was full of whiskey, the locals seized it, and the subsequent wrangling pitted the Hebrideans against the ship's owners. I never knew this at all, I just love the character of Wagett in the stories. I hope I have speeled his amen orrectely as I do not have a copy of the book. I think he also appeared in later novels set after the war.
I recently read Ben Nevis goes East and that is a great read. Ben Nevis strikes as the opposite end of the spectrum in terms of a product of an English Public School to John Walker. I like both characters but find JW more believable.
