GN does end with the bird back on the nest, but I think it would have been an anticlimax to finish further on with a farewell to the Laird or the return of the Sea Bear to Mac?

There is a semi-postscript at the end of PD saying which daughter of PD Bill went to live with, otherwise they end up with a final scene like SD with Susan saying “its good to be back on the island.” SA has the mothers planning to come back next year, but that was the first book, setting the scene for more books to come!

The only books to have seperate one-page postscripts are CC with “Postscript” giving the result of Flash’s races, and BS with “What Happened to the Fish”.

Postscripts saying how they all lived happily ever after seem to belong more to Victorian sagas of Empire; like G. A. Henty’s boys books. I seem to have inherited a couple - Maori and Settler & With Wolfe in Quebec.

Re favorite AR book, I seem to look at PP & WH often, even though they do not involve sailing; perhaps having Dick the scientist as hero (and I had to wear glasses through school to see the blackboard! Still I can read books without them now - no bifocals!).
