Just had 'Jibbooms & Bobstays' (the Nancy Blackett mag) recently and as always thoroughly enjoyed it. Real breath of fresh air, and nice layout. I really envy those who can go for a sail in Nancy, then end up having a meal at the Royal Harwich or wherever - sounds idyllic, and you don't know how lucky you are!

However, as a land-locked landsman, could someone help with two technical phrases in 'Jibbooms' - 'bent on', referring to a sail - some sort of fitting process maybe? And also 'headed into the wind and de-powered the mail'? 'The mail'??? I'm baffled, Ed Kiser-style.

(Just wanna end by saying how wunnerful Arthur Ransome is. . .)
