Perhaps I should add that the fact that Nancy and the Blackett family formed the subject of a whole series was first pointed out by Sheila Ray in MIXED MOSS. Of course in writing about Nancy, Ransome was in fact indulging himself in a early form of fan fiction since Dorita Fairlie Bruce's Nancy stories appeared in the 1920s - years before SWALLOWS AND AMAZONS was published. Not many people know this.
